Accies Select v Old Bristolians

On a beautiful day in May, with the sun beating down on a perfect pitch at Windyedge, Accies took on a touring side from Bristol.

The Accies side was made up of 1st and 2nd XV players plus the very welcome addition of some of the Academy School leavers who will hopefully be joining the Club for next season. The Academy boys, most certainly, made a big impression and look like very good prospects. Jack MCready demonstrated good hands and an awareness of where to be on the pitch. Jack Mclean is an impressive forward and would make a real impression next season.

Accies Squad:

Forwards  from; Jamie Coskry, Chris Scott, Mark Drummond, Ruaridh Wilson, Chris Johnstone, Kack McLean, PJ Rankin, Ryan Sweeney.

Backs from; Chris Jubb, Angus Blair, Stewart Gray, Murray Drover, Fraser Wilson, Brad Bell, Ruaridh Hood, Kris Mathie and Jack McCready.

The game was played in 3 x 20 minute sectors. The first 20 started off well with open rugby being played by both sides. Old Bristolians scored first but an immediate response from Accies with two quick tries. It was a high scoring game and as one spectator commented just demonstrated how good summer rugby could be!

The spectators were well entertained throughout this friendly and with the third sector coming to a close the referee for today, our very own Mr Sweeney, declared that the game was drawn at this point so the next try would be the winner.

Old Bristolians immediately made ground with some lovely timed passing and good angles of running. They were well inside Accies 22 when from a knock on Fraser Wilson collected the loose ball and ran the length of the park to score what was clearly the outstanding individual try of the game.

Great game and everyone there and all the players had a really enjoyable afternoon.

So big thank you to the travelling team from Bristol and let’s hope we keep in touch.

In the absence of our resident photographer, Bob Johnstone, we have managed to get a ‘stand in’ to produce a record of this lovely afternoon.
