After the initial disappointment when Irvine RFC phoned to cancel the scheduled 2nd XV West Reserve league Division 1 fixture against  our 2’s, Uddingston 1st XV offered to fill the gap. Great relief for the 2’s coaches who were really looking forward to getting the first fixture of the year underway. A really tough prospect but a great chance for them to assess which players are going to be challenging for 1st XV places.

A big thank you also has to go out to Fraser McCready (coach) who stepped up to referee after the referees society were unable to find a referee!
The game was made up of 4 sectors. The first 30 minutes saw Accies dominating and score some really good tries then Uddingston came back in the last 10 minutes of the first half to redress the deficit. The first 20 minutes of the second half saw Uddingston maintain this progress and take the lead. However it was Accies who finished stronger and only just failed to claw back the deficit when the full-time whistle blew and the final score was 38 – 31. A great game of rugby for the supporters and a terrific workout for both teams.

There is a superb attitude this season from players and coaches and, with every position up for grabs, the competition for places can only be good for the club. A strong 2nd XV is vital for a successful club and it is clear that this season Accies is blessed with a great squad and a really positive attitude from the players.

To any supporter who cannot travel to St Boswells this Saturday to watch the 1st XV, I can assure you of a good afternoon of rugby at New Anniesland when our 2nd XV will be taking on a strong Cartha QP in what will be a tough and exciting fixture.
