Welcome to Dunc’s Gym!
Our Summer 2010 strength programme is up and running. Supervised sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 6.30 and on Saturdays (times to be agreed each week). Tuesday’s session will be heavy lifting for strength. On Thursdays we will be lifting slightly lighter and faster but with the emphasis still on strength. On Saturdays we go out in the fresh air and do fun stuff like pulling a weighted sledge and smashing up tyres with a sledge hammer plus some lifting in the gym.
Glasgow Hawks supremo Peter Wright has finally come to his senses and decided that it’s a good idea for his players to get strong too. The Hawks squad will be training in the gym on Monday and Wednesday evenings 6.30 to 8 under the supervision of their weights coach Rory McKay. Rory has already been doing good work in the gym with some of the Hawks junior players. Come on the Hawks! Get in there and get strong!

Derrick Speirs has been getting great results with his national age grade players in the gym. It’s good for us that those guys train in there. We get to see the loads those young guys are lifting and it gives us an idea of what strong really is. A couple of the boys featured in the Scotland u19 win over France u19 at Braidholm recently. Those guys got strong by lifting weights in our gym and then pulled on a Scotland jersey and beat the French. How cool is that!
